The Toothless Window of Time

I can't seem to get enough of photos of this toothless girl. The front tooth is starting to come in, so I am taking extra photos to remember this time. Plus, I had her laughing like crazy at the beach yesterday to get some great shots with my new camera.

She got right up in my face for this one, and it cracked me up. Such a beautiful girl.

Everything in our house lately has to do with Jedi training. It's the books we read, the lightsaber poses we study, and even is a way for us to help Sojo monitor her behavior. "Is this Jedi behavior?" seems to work wonders.

Sojo spotted this broomstick at the hardware store recently, and with some bold green paint that Dale had purchased for his music room, the newest of the lightsaber collection was created.

Speaking of Dale, he is feeling quite content (read: over the moon) with having a garage for the first time in many, many years. He loves being able to do projects like this with Sojo, and he has just built an entire desk for his music room as well.

And we finally have a new camera, (I dropped the last one) and so this will be the last of the poor quality iTouch photos.

Beat the Heat

The temps are rising here, and I am already a bit nostalgic for the perfect "winter" weather. Our recreation department purchased a bunch of new bouncy castles that are water slides, and they hosted a party last Wednesday. It was somewhat chaotic but super fun. Especially the huge water slide that you had to climb up with a rope. That's a water soccer field behind Sojo--there was no way we were letting her in there!

And who is not beating the heat are these ladies! I have heard about having women on boxes covered over before, but this was the first time I came upon it at our local Home Depot-ish store. Imagine--someone's job is to color over all the exposed body parts just so no one is tempted. Reminds me of China where there was a gaggle of people whose job it was to turn off the broadcast if anything negative was said about China. No joke--CNN would go black for a few minutes and then magically come on again when they stopped talking about China.

Funky Recorder Girl

Funky (fake) glasses, a new love for playing the recorder and my new-to-me reading couch. Enjoy!

Back 2 Bangkok

Many months ago, we decided that heading back to Bangkok for our spring vacation would be the best idea for our family to give some closure to that time in our lives. That being said, it is always bittersweet and a little bit weird going back somewhere--everyone is the same but a bit different, things have moved on but also stayed the same. Such is the nature of the nomadic life.

The airport was a whopping 3 hour drive to Bahrain, but we had enough time for a stop at the mall. Sojo picked up a pair of fabulous polkadot glasses and a pocketwatch. Seemingly random, but she has been talking about them for months now and is quite fascinated with things that are old-fashioned.

This whole trip was about reconnecting, so the relaxing part of Thailand had to stay in our memories. Sojo spent the morning as a kindergartener at our old school while Dale and I caught up with friends. We even got to borrow our old golf cart and went to lunch at Sojo's favorite restaurant. And our first family foot massage where Sojo had the hugest grin on her face for about 5 minutes straight, until she conked out. It was adorable!

Overall, it was a great trip. The best part was seeing good friends and watching Sojo interact with the kids she grew up with. The bummer part was that Sojo had numerous allergic reactions to food and hotel sheets because of the high dustmite count, so we gave her more Benadryl in the last five days than we have in the last five months. The desert suits us on many levels, but Sojo's good health is the best part of it all.

Well, that and the camels.

Backyard Baseball

Sojo thought we should make a video of her going for a home run in the backyard, and I was more than happy to oblige on a beautiful afternoon. It's a bit hard to hear her, but at the end, she is giving some tips on how to play baseball. It makes Dale so happy that she loves baseball like he does.

Two Front Teeth

It is so wild and beautiful and nostalgic to think that this tiny window of time is when Sojo will have a big space where both front teeth were. It makes it feel extraordinarily special and a bit sad at the exact same time. Plus, it makes us all chuckle when she says "sthmile!"
